New Piece for New Parents: "On Children" by Kahil Gibran
Many steps were involved in getting this piece completed. Here is a picture of the parts...
The title: some ideas for what "squiggles" to consider based on what I thought the client wanted. # 6 was chosen
The border: some designs for the border, I could have done
20 or so more but stopped at 7. #1 was chosen.
Then I had to practice the border to make sure it would line up correctly with the four corners. I used that as my guide when I produced the final piece.
The poem: I had to lay it out just as it was typed on the page
from the book that it was in. That was totally new for me.Usual I choose how I want to lay out the words of each piece. You can see part of it on the bottom of this picture.
Margins: This part took way longer than I thought. I ended up having the margins all the same. Reality is that it will now be up to the person who frames the piece to decide how big the mat will be and the frame.
The paper size is 11" by 17" , ivory, 24lb,Southworth Parchment
I was asked to create a simple font that was easy to read and had a touch of class to it. This is what I came up with.
I must admit, I like this font a lot and use it quite often in my work. It is called "Flowing" because my pen does flow with the elongated letters like "h", "g", "j", and "n".
All the margins from the edge of the paper to the border are the same.
I used 3 different sized nibs for the border,
one for the border lines, one for the curves and one for the dots.
Here is a close up of the piece so you can really see the letters clearly and the border as well.
